Should I use Mylar bags or glass jars for cannabis packaging?
Both Mylar bags and glass jars are popular and reliable cannabis packaging options for dispensaries. They both share a number of advantages over other packaging options and each have their own benefits over one another.
For instance, glass jars and Mylar bags are both reusable, provide an airtight seal to maintain product freshness and can be child resistant. Both options are made from non-toxic food grade materials, which also contributes to product freshness in the long term. Biohazard's Mylar bags and glass jars are also easily customizable to truly make your products your own.
One major difference between Mylar bags and glass jars is that Mylar bags are opaque whereas most glass jars are transparent. The contents of a glass jar can be exposed to UV rays, and too much UV exposure can degrade product. However, this issue can be fixed by opting for tinted glass jars that limit UV exposure or storing the clear glass jars in any cool, dry, and dark location. Also, glass jars tend to be more expensive than Mylar bags.
Ultimately, the decision of whether Mylar bags or glass jars are best depends on your preference and local regulations on cannabis packaging. Do some research on what local authorities permit – for example, all California retailers are expected to package sold units in opaque exit bags at the point of dispensing – before making the decision in purchasing either of these cannabis packaging options.
